We spent the first day of the labor day weekend celebrating both my birthday in August and Rebecca’s birthday in September. After our adventure in North Carolina we had some of the family over for a little pool and a cookout! We hit some record temperatures here with really dry conditions. I believe it has been more than 2 weeks since we’ve had any appreciable rain. Labor Day weekend is sort of a lost weekend, you know not the big football or baseball weekend nor the official start of school end of summer as it used to be back in my time. This day of the cookout hit a record temperature of 101 I believe and the pool temp was close to 90 degrees itself!
On Sunday however the weather changed drastically. We went from the oven we have been living in to a transitional day of rain and lower temperatures, highs here in the mid-80’s, and it was a very refreshing change. Then Monday we awoke to temps in the low 60’s with more rain! Not complaining because this is the type of weather I really like! Cool, so comfortable, gives the a/c a rest, and sort of allows the earth to take a breath from the punishing heat of the previous few days.
We’ll be off to Edgan Evins in the next few days and then to Long Island for my nephew’s wedding. Where it used to take us a day to drive to NY now takes us three days! All the stops we make now with old bladders and weak backs slows us down; plus being retired we stop and try to read all those historical signs we used to pass all the time on the roads or take an alternate route we never would have tried before. It is refreshing. It is so liberating to be able to do things like this at our leisure.
