Traditions

As we make our way along the Gulf Coast one of the things Monica and I love doing is to visit different Catholic Churches for Mass every Sunday.

Each church is a reflection of the local culture and this seashell shaped cylindircal shaped Church of St Michaels, is the church that blesses the fleet every spring.

They assemble at the main harbor and after a brief service are blessed as they pass the bishop on their way out to sea.

We’ve really enjoyed visiting this fishing town and the beaches all along the Mississippi coast.  Much more beautiful than we remember; we were assigned to Keesler AFB for a brief time in 1980.

Back then the beach along the coast was still polluted from Hurricane Camile in the 70s.

Our next stop is New Orleans and right during the Mardi Gras celebration.
