After leaving Dallas we headed a bit north and east to Ft Sill Oklahoma where Monica and her family lived while her father was in the Army. I was not expecting to see such beauty as found in the hills and plains of Oklahoma.
We stayed in an RV Park on base, close to the City of the Gods used every year to celebrate Easter services.
The sunsets are unrivaled here. Sweeping vistas, star filled nights, Longhorns and Buffalo walking the plains. Here’s an interesting tidbit of history — the buffalo found here were actually decedents of buffalo transported from the Bronx Zoo. Fifteen buffalo were moved here and now they number over 600!
The City of Gods is located just north of the base, on the base border in fact.
Geronimo’s grave is located on the post. A grave, very small and unkempt when you think about his place in history.
