Finally in Arizona, one of our primary stops along the way is to see the Grand Canyon, but along the way we stopped in Holbrook Arizona for a few nights while we visited the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert.
It’s hard to believe this part of Arizona was once a lush tropical forest, right on the equator.
The ground in this National Forest is literally strewn with petrified wood as far as the eye can see.
Driving the 25 miles through this park to the Painted Desert is quite beautiful and exciting. Again it’s just the vastness of the area, the ability to see the curve of the earth, the desolation of the land. And yet it still supports wildlife that have all adapted to the climate.
